Being a stay-at-home mom is a very huge responsibility. You’re raising a family and you do your best to rear your children to be good human beings as they grow up.

You develop different kinds of skills that you never thought you have.

But it’s tough to have a one-income household which is why you need to find income opportunities that you can do online.

With the rapid inflation rate in the country, even your accounting skills couldn’t keep up. Good thing there are a lot of income opportunities online so you don’t have to leave your kids.

Each of these can be done immediately depending on your skill set and how willing you are to learn.

In this article, I’ve listed down the best income opportunities for stay-at-home moms.

If you can’t and don’t want to handle stocks and inventory, this is suited for you. But this is one of the income opportunities for stay at home moms who are inclined to shopping online.

What is dropshipping?

Dropshipping is selling products on behalf of other sellers then you will fulfill the order and the seller will ship the item for you. The product will not pass through you, instead it goes directly to your customer. By sellers, what I mean are the manufacturers and/or traders.

What You Need In Dropshipping

A. Online Store/Website

Do not be intimidated by this. Building an online store is quite easy nowadays. There are lots of tools that will help you build one, some are free and some are paid.

But one of the best ways to speed up your website creation is to use a page builder like Elementor. It’s drag and drop web creation and with no coding required makes it super easy to use. This is a great tool especially for non-tech savvy.

But if you don’t have time to build it from scratch, you can purchase a ready made theme for your website at Creative Market. There is a wide variety of themes here that you can choose from any type of niche.

But before you get started with building your website, let me first enumerate the steps to build an online store.

  • Domain Name

This is the name of your website. Examples of domain name are google.com, facebook.com, olx.ph, wikipedia.org. The domain name of this website is stayathomemomstoday.com.

Prices of domain names vary depending if they end with .com or .org or .net and the like. It is also renewed yearly. What I recommend is that you think of a domain name that is very much associated with your product or service.

If your product is about fashion accessories, you should choose a name such as thebraceletcollection.com.

If it is related to health and wellness, choose something like healthline.com.

You can buy your domain name from Namecheap. As the name suggests, domain names here have low prices. First, you can check if your domain name is still available here.

  • Hosting/Web Host

Web host is the “house” of your domain name. This is where all your files and data are stored. To better explain the concept of domain and hosting, watch this video.

It is important to choose the right hosting. What should you look for in a hosting provider.

  • Speed

People have short attention spans. According to Statisticbrain.com, 8 seconds is the average person’s attention span and only 28% of words are read on an average web page.

Therefore, you should choose a hosting provider that gives your website a fast loading. Online stores have a lot of graphics and images so having a reliable hosting is essential.

Slow loading of your web pages will lead to poor conversion or sales. This is the last thing any business owners would want.

  • Customer Support

Whatever happens to your website, who else will help you but your hosting provider’s customer support. It’s best to have a hosting that gives 24/7 support.

I use TMD hosting as my web host. This is my third web host, the first was Hostgator then I switched to Siteground.

Siteground was recommended to me by a blogger who is also an online coach. Upon checking/researching on the internet, I found its features matched my requirements.

However, I found it a little pricey for a simple website like mine. I did a little bit more research and I found TMD Hosting.

Like Siteground, it also has free SSL certificate that is very helpful in establishing trust to your website. But what I really love about it, is their awesome customer support. Not only is the support page easy to locate on the dashboard, but their response is quick though not as fast as Siteground’s chat support.

TMD do not have chat support just email support in which they will respond within 24 hours which is pretty not bad for a site owner who’s not in a hurry. Check them out if you like.

  • WordPress and E-Commerce Platform

Where you create your entire website or store is the WordPress. It is free and an open source content management system. This may seem jargon to you, but it’s simply where you create web pages, posts, and other contents of your website.

In building a store, it is best to pair WordPress with an ecommerce platform and the one that I recommend is Woocommerce. It is because you have different ways to receive payment such as Paypal, Debit/Credit Card, Check, and even Cash on Delivery. Personally,

I only use Paypal and Debit/Credit Card. This platform is very easy to use. Once you have imported your products, the other pages of your website are already set up such as the shop page, product page, cart page, and the checkout page. Don’t worry, Woocommerce is also free.

Alidropship plugin is an eCommerce plugin designed to streamline the dropshipping process.

With Alidropship, products are instantly imported to your online store in just a click. When you receive an order, the fulfilment is also done automatically on your store, though you may choose to do it manually also.

There are tons of product listings here that you can ever imagine. If you don’t know what to sell yet, better browse the products of Aliexpress first to give yourself some ideas.

Alidropship plugin has 2 types. The first one is for a general store that sells a lot of products like more than 500. The second one is for niche specific  where products do not exceed 500.

If your store has  specific niche, then Woocommerce is the best option. Then choose Aliwoo which is the Alidropship plugin for Woocommerce.

B. A Logo

Having a logo  creates a brand for your store. Don’t worry if you’re not a logo designer. There are free apps that can help you create  a logo in an instant such as Canva.

You can also hire a freelancer to do logo for you for as low as $5 in freelancer.com or in fiverr.

C. Social Media Accounts

Any store or website needs social media accounts to market and advertise their store. It’s best to create Facebook Pages, Instagram account and also Pinterest so visitors can share your products on your website.

This is already a must to reach more people, advertise to your target market, grow your visitors, and of course to have lots of sales.

D. Email Response Provider (ESP) / Autoresponder

If you’re receiving emails automatically right after you subscribed to a website be it a blog or a store, that is the autoresponder sending you the email.

You need this so you can collect the email address of your website visitors and build trust and rapport by constantly updating them with what’s new on your store. This is also so you can update your customers about the whereabouts of their item.

Also for those who left their shopping cart without continuing to purchase so you can follow up on them and ask the reason why they abandoned their cart.

Each ESP though has their own policy that you have to abide by. Some do not allow affiliate products or affiliate links which I will discuss in a little bit. There are also free ESP such as Mailchimp and Mailerlite.

There are also paid ESP but worth the price such as Getresponse which I recommend if you have affiliate products.

Getresponse is very easy to use. It has lots of video tutorials so you won’t get lost. But what I love about this ESP is their great customer support. Their available 24/7 and you will get very quick response on their live chat support, isn’t that awesome? You don’t have to wait for hours or even days to get answer to your questions or dilemma.

Their pricing is totally reasonable and also not pricey at all especially for those just starting out in this e-commerce business.

2. Freelancing

A freelancer or independent contractor is someone who does a job for a company, an agency or a business owner without a legal contract.

Jobs can be on a per-project basis where you will get paid based on the milestones or the completion of the project.

Other jobs require a freelancer who can work regularly. Meaning you will work for a certain number of hours in a week and payment is also on a per hour basis.

According to due.com, there are approximately 53 million freelancers in the US. It was also mentioned that 71.1% are women while 28.9% are men.

Freelancing is one of the  very flexible and lucrative income opportunities online when done right. And by “right”, I mean you consistently improve your skills so you can charge a higher rate because you deliver quality results.

It is also ideal for anyone who wants to earn cash from home in a matter of weeks or months. This is because you don’t need a website to become a freelancer.

What you have to work on is to develop a marketable skill and then build your portfolio.

Having the sincerity in helping your client to make his business grow will make you an asset to his company. Some clients can be very generous in giving out bonuses and incentives if they’re happy with your performance.

While there are some disadvantages of freelancing, I think advantages far outweigh them.

For me, it is even so much better than being a regular employee in a company working 8 to 5 every day. Read this to know why freelancing is better than a regular job.

Here are some of the gigs that you can learn to become a freelancer.

  • Marketing – Project managers, Marketing coordinators, or Marketing managers Business
  • Project Management – Project Manager, Process Analyst
  • Website – Web Developer, Web Designers, Graphic Designers
  • Writing – Bloggers, copy editors, and content managers

  • Social Media – Community Manager or Social Media Coordinators

3. Affiliate Marketing

Affiliate marketing is promoting other people’s products and getting a commission from it. Products can both be goods, or digital products such as online courses, apps, software, and the like.

If you need immediate income, affiliate marketing is not right for you because it takes time and effort before you reap the rewards. But having your own blog where you can promote these products will make it easier for you.

Affiliate marketing and blogging are income opportunities for stay at home moms who love to write and share their stories and experiences.

I used to wonder how anyone can earn through blogging. Until I learned that blogging would not bring you money. It’s what you do in your blog that will make you money. There are a lot of ways on how you can monetize your blog and one of them is through affiliate marketing.

However, it’s very important to promote products that you are using and that you find very useful and that you think can help your readers.

Don’t promote products just because you’ll get a commission. If you do this, you are not being sincere and you are not truly being helpful to your readers. Give value to your blog by promoting products that also have value.

To have in-depth knowledge on how affiliate marketing works, check out this website of Shoutmeloud. I can’t stop reading their articles and I’m pretty sure you won’t, too. I even wrote down the list of guides to help me in my blogging. Check it out and you’ll absolutely learn tons of information in here.

4. Print On Demand

One of the income opportunities for stay at home moms that has also been popular is Print on demand or POD. This is simply selling products that have your own graphic design. These can be mugs, pillows, tote bags but the most popular are t-shirts.

This is sort of like dropshipping.  But with dropshipping, you don’t have your own product,  you just have to sell the products of the manufacturers or traders.

With print on demand, you have your own product, but you just have to create your own graphic design for it to get printed on your products.

This is one of the income opportunities for stay at homes who are creative and who love to design.

What You Need in Print on demand

This is a  POD service that is the supplier of your products. They will print your design on your chosen product, for example, a t-shirt, then they will will also ship the item for you.

There are quite a lot of POD services such as PrintfulPrintifyTeeSpringZazzleRedbubble to name a few. They differ in the types of products, t-shirt fabric, minimum orders, and shipping.

With a lot of research, the one I found that fits my requirements (no monthly fees, good reviews, easy upload of design, and user friendly interface is Printful. Members are entitled to make 2 sample order of t-shirt products every month with discount. With this privilege, you get to see how your designs would look like in person and how it would look on their fabric.

I did order and the t-shirts arrived in less than 3 weeks from USA to the Philippines. Below are the photos. (Click the image to enlarge.)

These are designs that will be printed on your products such as t-shirts like I have already mentioned.

Don’t worry if you’re not a graphic designer or if you are not creative. You can outsource the expertise of a graphic designer on Fiverr.com. For only $5, you already get a design that you need. Some freelancers charge per design while some have packages like 10 designs for just $30.

There are also a ton of cool design collections on Creative Market. For only $3 and you’ll get 20 t-shirt designs. Creative Market is my favorite creative marketplace! It’s worth checking them out.

A domain name and a hosting are needed for this as you have already learned from above so I won’t discuss this any further.
